On April 22, 2022, at just 17 years, she defeated Jackie Buntan to capture the ONE Women's Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship, becoming the youngest world champion in ONE Championship history.

It was an extraordinary achievement, but for Smilla, it was only the beginning.

Having developed her skills in Thailand, where she began training Muay Thai at a young age, Smilla built her reputation through relentless pressure, technical striking, and a fighting spirit that earned her the nickname “The Hurricane.”

Her success made her one of the most exciting young talents in Muay Thai. But rather than settling for what she had already achieved, Smilla set her sights on a new challenge.

The Night That Changed Everything – Smilla Sundell Secures UFC Contract

On October 13, 2026, Smilla stepped into the Octagon at Dana White's Contender Series in Las Vegas, facing Brazilian fighter Aline Pereira, sister of UFC superstar Alex Pereira.

The stakes couldn't have been higher.

A victory would bring her one step closer to competing on the biggest stage in mixed martial arts.

Across three demanding rounds, Smilla showcased the aggressive striking, forward pressure, and determination that have defined her career. Despite facing a tough opponent, she secured a unanimous decision victory, with all three judges scoring the fight 29–28 in her favour.

But winning the fight was only part of the challenge.

UFC President Dana White initially questioned whether the 21-year-old needed more MMA experience before joining the organisation. UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard, however, strongly believed in her potential.

The result?

Smilla Sundell was awarded a UFC contract.

With an undefeated 3–0 professional MMA record and a world championship pedigree, The Hurricane is officially entering the next chapter of her fighting career.

From becoming a world champion at 17 to joining the UFC at 21, Smilla continues to demonstrate what dedication, discipline, and belief can achieve.
